Nigeria Football Supporters Club Pay Condolence Visit To Family of Late Super Eagles Goalkeeper, Peter Rufai

A solemn atmosphere on Friday, engulfed No 36A Platinum Way, Raji Rasaki Estate, Raji Rasaki Road, Amuwo Odofin, Lagos residence of late Super Eagles shot stopper, Peter Rufai when members of the Nigeria Football Supporters Club, led by the President General, Dr. Rafiu Oladipo paid a condolence visit to his family.

The mourning mood was so intense that the club’s drums went silent, the trumpets did not blow while members in low tunes rendered some solemn songs in honour of the departed.

Speaking after signing the condolence register, Dr. Oladipo described Rufai as a patriotic Nigerian who brought smiles to the faces of many of his country men through his exploits on the field of play even as he lamented that his death came at a time he was given back to the youths.

” The news of the death of Peter Rufai
came to me as a big surprise because I never had the premonition that he was stick. This was a man who gave his best to the National team and won many laurels for the country.

“His death coming at a time the nation is yet to overcome the demise of former Super Eagles Coach, Christian Chukwu and most recently, another national team coach, Monday Sinclair calls for sobber reflection.

“It’s quite unfortunate that Peter Rufai died when he had started giving back to the society but since we cannot question God, we have to pray that God grant his soul eternal rest and give those he left behind the fortitude to bear the irreplaceable loss.

Welcoming members of the club, his sisters; Dele Rufai and Bose Lawanson Jack thanked the club for remembering them at their time of grief.
They noted that they were still in shock because his death was never expected at this time with a promise to keep the club abreast of his burial arrangement.
Peter Rufai who died last two weeks at the age of 62, started his playing career with Stationery Stores of Lagos. He competed professionally abroad in Belgium, the Netherlands, Portugal and Spain, in a senior career that lasted 20 years.

Rufai represented Nigeria in two World Cups and as many Africa Cup of Nations tournaments.

He will be buried in a yet to be announced date by his family.
