Super Eagles days: Late Henry Nwosu and Ikem ‘Potential Ayaya’ Udeh in Ivory Coast
1992 Nigeria Premier League top-scorer and former Super Eagles forward Ikem Udeh has described the death of Henry Nwosu as disappointing and shocking.
The influential 1980 Nations Cup winner and defunct ACB star died last Saturday at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital where he was admitted due to illness.
His death has sparked concerns as many expressed disbelief.
Udeh “Potential Ayaya” who shared same room with the former national team captain against Ivory Coast under Clemens Westerhoff was crest fallen when the news of his departure got to him at his base in the United States.
“So disappointing and shocking to hear about Henry’s passing but even more so to hear about how he passed. I read that he did not receive any treatment…unbelievable that any human being would be treated as such. Nevertheless, a player that sacrificed and gave so much for our country.”

He recalled how much the Maroc ’88 Africa Cup of Nations star influenced his fledging career in his book ‘I Choose America’ during his limited time with the Eagles as icon prepared to end his international career.
The former Udoji United FC star further revealed that as roommates in Abidjan, Nwosu encouraged him as a young player on how to be a better professional by working extra hard, a piece of advice which aided him in his development and approach to life till date.
He however expressed his worries on the implications of losing a legend in such condition.
“Honestly, this is very scary for some of us who are seriously considering moving back home after many years overseas.
Rest in peace my Captain, Henry Nwosu, big name!”
