2026 W/ Cup Qualifier: Super Eagles land in Bloemfontein ahead of crucial game against South Africa

The Super Eagles of Nigeria have arrived in Bloemfontein, South Africa, ahead of their must- win world cup qualifier against Group C leaders, Bafana Bafana of South Africa.

The team departed Uyo at 2:00 p.m, Sunday aboard a ValueJet flight, with a brief stopover in Luanda, Angola, for refueling and touched down in Bloemfontein at exactly 6.25 pm local time

After a two-hour, 20-minute flight and a one-hour stopover, the squad continued on a three-and-a-half-hour journey before landing at Bram Fischer International Airport.

The Nigerian delegation, comprising over 70 players and officials, will stay in South Africa until Tuesday, September 10, after the high-stakes encounter.

This trip comes after overcoming visa challenges at the South African Embassy in Abuja, which had delayed entry permits for some delegation members, including the Nigeria Supporters Club.

With travel issues now resolved, Nigeria will focus on the game as they aim for a maximum three points against the Group leaders

Bafana Bafana currently lead Group C with 16 points from seven matches, while the Super Eagles sit third with 10 points.

The match is scheduled to kick off at 5:00 p.m. Nigerian time, and a win would reduce the deficit to three points, reviving Nigeria’s qualification hopes with three rounds remaining.

A victory would be a significant boost for the team while a draw or loss will put the Coach Chelle’s tutored side in a precarious situation in the qualifiers.
