As the countdown to the 11th edition of the Access Bank Lagos City Marathon (ABLCM) begins, the race organizers, Nilayo Sports Management Limited, have issued an official statement regarding athlete hydration and route regulations for the event scheduled for February 14, 2026.
Following reports of independent running clubs planning private refreshment stations, the organizers, alongside official partners 7UP Bottling Company and its flagship water brand, Aquafina, wish to reassure all participants that a comprehensive hydration plan is fully in place.
Robust Hydration Coverage
To ensure no runner is stranded or underserved, official hydration stations have been strategically positioned at 2.5km intervals along both the 42KM and 10KM routes. These stations, fully stocked with Aquafina water and 7UP products, are designed to meet the rigorous demands of a potential World Athletics Platinum Label race property.
Furthermore, a robust refreshment hub will be available at the grand finish point within Eko Atlantic City.
Strict Route Regulations
In maintaining the technical integrity and safety standards required for international certification, Nilayo Sports Management Limited announces that no unauthorized refreshment setups will be permitted along the race routes.
“Our commitment to the ‘New Steps, Fresh Goals’ theme involves strict adherence to global best practices,” said a spokesperson for Nilayo Sports Management Limited.
“To ensure the health and safety of every athlete, we only permit refreshments provided by our official partners. The organizers reserve the right to dismantle any unauthorized structures or stations that fall foul of this regulation.”
As ABLCM 2026 enters the Platinum Decade, the focus remains on providing a top level experience for elite and fun runners alike. With the new 42KM route traversing the Lagos–Calabar Coastal Road, every logistical detail, from security to hydration, has been optimized for excellence.
Runners are encouraged to rely solely on the official stations, which are equipped to handle the expected surge of over 50, 000 participants.
