Volleyball: Kano Pillars continue Super Cup poor run

Nigeria Volleyball Federation Premier League defending champions, Kano Pillars continued their poor form in the on- going Super Cup presently holding at the Indoor Sports Hall of National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos by losing two matches in a row.
The team having lost to newly promoted Premiership side, Kwara United 3-2 on Monday, again put up a woeful performance against Otta Volleyball Club on Match ‘Day 3’ of the championship losing by 3-0 of 23-25, 21-25 and 16-25 to the disappointment of their fans and officials.
Speaking on their poor run in the tournament, some of their players who spoke to our correspondent attributed it to complacency on their side even as they agreed that it is an evidence that the game is growing in the country.
” We’re complacent in both games and paid dearly for it. You know that as defending champions in any competition, your opponents will always prepare well for you in order to record an upset. We underrated them and by the time we realized what was happening, it was too late to come back to the game.
“What this shows is that the game is developing fast in the country with many talented youths now playing volleyball which is good because with the calibre of players on parade, Nigeria will soon be a force to be reckoned with in volleyball both continentally and globally”, they said.
The players however expressed optimism that they can still put up some good performance in their remaining games before the curtain draws on the tournament on Saturday.
” We know that technically, we’re out of the title race but not completely down yet. We shall continue fighting to the end and ensure we win our remaining matches so as not to be disgraced completely at the end of hostilities”, they chorused.
Meanwhile in the other
matches decided on ‘Day 3’ Kwara Utd continued their unbeaten run by recording a 3-2 victory of 25-19, 21-25, 25-14, 20-25 and 15-12 against Wikki Spikers of Bauchi while Customs came from one set down to beat Kada Kings of Kaduna 3-1 of 21-25, 25-19, 25-21 and 25-23.
