NYG: Northern journalists raise alarm over plot by South to unleash Warri Wolves players on them in novelty clash

…It’s a lie by a team that is suffering from beer fatigue says Moses Etu

From Eche Amos, Asaba

As the curtains for the 7th National Youth Games holding in Asaba, Delta State are gradually winding down, Sports Journalists covering the multi-sport U-15 event are planning to  take out time to usher in the new national leadership of the Sportswriters body (SWAN) headed by Comr. Isaiah Benjamin with a novelty match.

The over three hundred Sports Journalists who converged in Asaba from across the country have unanimously resolved to play a novelty football match as a way of fraternizing among themselves, with journalists practicing in the North forming the Northern Region Squad while those practicing in the South forming the Southern Region Team, respectively.

Captain of the Northern Region Sports Journalists, Eche Amos, during an address at the Media Centre of the Late Stephen Keshi International Stadium, Asaba, on Wednesday, however raised alarm ahead of the game.

Eche disclosed that they have uncovered a plot by their Southern colleagues to use Warri Wolves players.

“After watching our walk out and seeing our devastating form our colleagues from the south now want to use Warri Wolves players to avoid heavy defeat.

Eche added…we are not going to be intimidated by the antics of the host region…our strikers are ready to fire on all cylinders and our first choice keeper Busayo Olowookere has vowed to keep a clean sheet.

Former Warri Wolves boss and Aide to Delta State governor, Moses Etu who also spoke yesterday ahead of the match dismissed his northern colleagues as noise makers suffering from beer hang over ahead of the all-important match.

“They have a very important match yet they have gone on a drinking spree since arriving Asaba. Ask them how they celebrated the birthday of their keeper Olowookere some days back. Clarkson Ogoh and his men are battle ready. Fred Edoreh is even coming out of retirement to show them ‘shege’ on the field of play. It is going to be like the Newcastle, Sheffield United match. The least they will collect is eight goals,” Etu boasted adding, “we will still pay them winning bonus after the defeat.”

The highly anticipated novelty football match comes up on Saturday, 30th September, 2023, at the St. Patrick’s College, Asaba, by 8am.

Below is a tentative squad of the Northern Journalists as made available to the Press while the Southern Team’s Squad is being anticipated, probably being sent to a prayer house for consecration to deliver result.
