Muaythai Federation of Nigeria thumbs up world body
Muaythai Federation of Nigeria (MFN) has commended their world body;
International Federation of Muaythai Association (IFMA) for leading more than 600 Khru Muaythai, trainers and foreign Muaythai boxers to perform at the Wai Khru Muaythai ceremony held at the Ancient Olympic Stadium in Olympia, Greece; the birthplace of the modern day Olympic Games as well as it’s getting approval for the sports to be showcased at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, France.
The 2024 Muaythai World Championship tagged “IFMA Senior World Championship 2024” was held in Patras, Greece, between May 31 – June 9, 2024, with more than 1,200 Muaythai athletes from 79 countries covering 5 continents around the world participating in the competition.
Muaythai Federations sent boxers to participate in 13 weight categories comprising 7 male and 6 female categories with the best athletes advancing to the final round of the world championship on June 9, 2024 which was in 5 categories, divided into 3 male and 2 female categories.
The event attracted all the top officials of the sports led by it’s President, Dr. Sakchai Tapsuwan, Secretary General, Stefan Fox, Sports Director, Janice Linn, Dr. Supranee Kuptasara, former manager of the National Sports Development Fund (NSDF) as well as Associate Professor Dr. Anan Meksawan and
Dr. Chao Watayotha, International Khru Muaythai and many other leaders of the game .
In his appreciation, the President of Muaythai Federation of Nigeria (MFN), Comrade Paul Egonu commended IFMA and the entire Muaythai community for carrying Nigeria “MUAYTHAI” along and in making the sports an Olympic sports during the last 2920 Olympic Games in Tokyo Japan 2020.
He further urged the Muaythai practitioners in Nigeria to keep their moral High, while the association wait for Federal Ministry of Sports to do the needful in recognizing Muaythai Federation of Nigeria MFN as a national sport in Nigeria, after meeting the statutory requirements by appearing in three National Sports Festivals as demonstration sports and having practitioners in two-third of the country which was achieved since 2006 at the National Sports Festival hosted by Ogun State and also being part of demonstration sports at the Edo 2020 National Sports Festival
