Ajegunle Youth City Marathon to hold November 30

Organisers of the maiden Ajegunle Youth City Marathon have announced that the race will hold on November, 30, 2024 .
In a press conference to herald the 10 kilometer race, Isaac Success Omoleye, Coordinator of National Youth Council of Nigeria, Ajeromi/ Ifelodun Local Government Area of Lagos State, explained that the marathon with the theme; Creating a peaceful eco- friendly environment for an expanded youth engagement through sports, is being put together to showcase the vibrant culture, unity and creativity of the youths of the area as well as promote fitness, good health, talent identification and empowerment of youths through sports.
According to him, it’s important to know that the youths are the most viable resources and assets to the growth and development of any nation and as such, the marathon will serve as a platform to harness the potentials of Ajegunle youths for meaningful engagement and active participation towards building cohesive community for sustainable socioeconomic growth and peaceful development.
Project Leader of the race who also doubles as Youth Secretary, National Youth Council of Nigeria, Ajeromi/ Ifelodun Local Government Area, Isaac Moses explained that the race will begin with VIP/ Corporate race on November 23 while the main race takes place on the 30th, November; saying that the marathon would begin at Maracana Stadium and terminate at the Sports Ground of Nigeria Army Signals Barracks.
The 2.5 km corporate/ VIP race according to him will be flagged off by the Chairman of Ifelodun Local Council Development Area, Femi Okeowo with the Chairman of Ajeromi/ Ifelodun Local Government Area, Hon. Fatai Ayoola receiving them at the Council headquarters.
Moses while stating that there will also be race for the physically challenged noted that they have gotten approval from Ajeromi/Ifelodun Local Government Area and Ifelodun Local Council Development Area and endorsement from other critical stakeholders such as; House of Assembly member representing Lagos Constituency 1& 2, Federal House of Representative member, and the traditional ruler of Apapa, His Royal Majesty Oba Moroof Amoda- Tijani who will be the Royal Father of the Day amongst others.
Apart from this, they’re also in contact with Lagos State Sports Commission to provide technical oversight, the Military, Police, Federal Road Safety Commission and other para military organisations for the provision of security on the race day.
On registration, he stated that it is already ongoing both online and offline even as he announced that raffle tickets will be sold at affordable prices as a way of raising money while prizes such as plasma televisions, regenerators and other fantastic items will be won through the raffle draw.
The Project Leader also announced that the race will be rounded up with a gala nite where the winners and personalities who have brought fame to Ajegunle in sports, music, arts and entertainment will be celebrated.
The race which will involve about N20 million in price money will see the winners of both the male and female categories including physically challenged persons going home with N 300,000 while the first and second runners-up in all the categories will get N 200,000 and N100,000 respectively while there will also be other consolation prices.
