Lagos Set For 12th West Africa Deaf Football Tournament

Lagos will host the 2024 West Africa Deaf Football Competition holding from 12-18 October 2024 at the Onikan and the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos respectively.

President of the West Africa Deaf Sports Union. Mr. Ibrahim Amuda, who disclosed this in Lagos listed Benin Republic, Burkina Faso, Cote D’Ivoire, Ghana, Guinea, Niger Republic, Togo and host Country Nigeria as the eight nations that will be competing for honours.

According to him, the tournament which is unique to all the participating teams will also be used to prepare the Nigeria National team for the African Deaf Football championship holding in Morocco in November . A statement equally collaborated by the President of Nigeria Deaf Sports Federation, Alhaji Saka Suleiman Dagbo who in turn commended the Sports Ministry for their support as deaf Sports are no longer regarded as optional sports in Nigeria.
As the Chief host, Dagbo said his board will support the championship to the best of their ability.
Amuda also Commended the ECOWAS leadership for always being there for them since inception for the past years dating back to 2010.

Meanwhile, the Vice President of Nigeria Deaf Sports Federation, Comrade Ige Jenyo informed that Athletics events is also included in the championship to encourage other deaf athletes who are not into football.
He also added that the inclusion will help them prepare adequately for the 2026 African Deaf Athletes Championship to be staged in Nigeria.
In her remarks, Technical Director, Mrs Shola Ogundele, explained that athletics will feature men and women100m, 200m, 4x100m relay, 4x400m relay and mixed relay.

The football champions will smile home with $2,000 and a trophy while the runners-up and the third placed teams will receive $1,500 and $1,000 respectively.
There are also cash awards set aside for winners of the Athletics events.
