The Confederation of African Football has (CAF) has began investigation into crisis between Libya and Nigeria,
The Mediterranean Knights were expected to host the Super Eagles of Nigeria in matchday 4 of the 2025 African Cup of Nations qualifier. But the game was cancelled following the poor treatment meted out to Nigeria on their arrival in the North African country.
The football body on Monday started an investigation into the matter.
“The Confederation of Africain Football (CAF) has been in contact with the Libyan and Nigerian authorities after it had been informed that the Nigerian National Football Team (‘’Super Eagles’’) and their technical team were stranded in disturbing conditions for several hours at an airport that they were allegedly instructed to land by the Libyan authorities”.
“The matter has been referred to the CAF Disciplinary Board for investigation and appropriate action will be taken against those who violated the CAF Statutes and Regulations”, the statement said
Meanwhile, the Confederation of African Football has released the latest update about the botched game between Libya and Nigeria,
The match which was initially scheduled for Tuesday evening has been unofficially cancelled after the Super Eagles of Nigeria refused to play the game.
The Libya Football Federation on Tuesday morning continued with the preparation for the game
But CAF on Tuesday afternoon officially informed the Libya Football Federation that the game has been postponed.
CAF further stated that the game was postponed due to the circumstances and difficulties in organizing the match on time.
