Non payment of hospital bill : Imo CP orders for immediate release of twins, mother

Demands for medical Director's probe

From Everest Ezihe, Owerri

Worried by what may be described as man’s inhumanity to man, Imo State Commissioner of Police, Alhaji Aboki Danjuma, has ordered for the immediate release of twin boys, named Chidindu and Chijindu, delivered by 19 year old Miss.Precious Okere since May 4th, 2024 through cesarean operation at Goodwill Maternity, Obinze in Owerri West Local government area of the State.

Report has it that the young mother and the twins together with their grand mother has been in the hospital since the date of the delivery which is more than 5 months following their inability to pay the outrageous medical bills.

This financial handicap seemed to have prompted the medical director to seriously canvass for the young mother to succumb into his pressure and intimidation of offering him the twins in exchange for the settlement of the medical bills.

On hearing this following a petition from Chimdiebube Ekeoma, a Journalist and a human rights activist, the Police boss immediately ordered for the arrest and investigation of the Medical Director, Silas Nwamadi, as he accepted that he jokingly asked the nursing mother to give him the twins in an exchange for his outstanding bills.

Fortunately, the Medical Doctor admitted before the CP that he had “jokingly” asked the 19- year- old mother of the twins, Precious Okere, to handover the children to him, this irked the CP who ordered his men to investigate everything concerning the Medical Director.

The CP also scolded the Medical Doctor for his refusal to have empathy on the kids and their 19-year old mother even when some compassionate Nigerians came to pick the delivery bill.

The grandmother of the twins, Mrs. Ngozi Okere, who had been at the maternity with the twins and their 19-year old mother since May 4, had petitioned the CP last Wednesday, alleging that the Medical Doctor has been persuading her and her daughter to give him the twins in an exchange for the delivery bill, an allegation the 19-year old mother of the twins collaborated before the CP.

Recall that on the same Wednesday, some compassionate Nigerians led by human rights activist and Journalist, Chimdiebube Okeoma, went to the maternity to secure the release of the twins and their mother but the Doctor hiked the bill.

All entreaties made by the good Nigerians for him to accept the initial bill he gave fell on deaf ears.

Instead, the Nurses rained abuses to the 19 year old mother of the twins and her mother and equally fought them and inflicted bodily bruises on them

In the cause of the altercation the twin’s grandmother lost her phone, serious injuries were inflicted on her and her nursing daughter.

Okeoma had championed an advocacy for the release of the kids having stayed nearly six months at the maternity, a call some people keyed into and made financial commitments.

As of the time of filing this report, the Doctor was seen at the Scorpion Squad Unit of the Police Command making statement.
