Jigsur puzzle convener, Oloye outlines benefits of new game
The convener of Jigsur Puzzle game, Martins Oloye said his organisation K2U decided to introduce the game to school children to enable them increase their sense of reasoning as well as use African folklore and stories of yesteryears to pick up on puzzle.
According to him, the puzzle which was test run last Friday at the E- learning Center, Yaba, Lagos with children from some select schools in the Local Government in attendance, will also be taken round all the Local Government Areas of the state, after which a competition will be organized for the best students from each zone to determine the eventual winner of the puzzle competition.
” The whole essence of the puzzle is to make children use their brain and intelligence, have new learning experience as well as learn how to use African folklores and folktales to win a puzzle and am happy with the enthusiasm shown by the children
” The puzzle also shows that African tradition, heritage , language and culture is not lost and I beat my heart anywhere I go, that we’re the only one that have jigsur puzzle manufactured with not just pictures but at the back of it have African stories because we want children to be part of the game” , he explained.
Oloye, cofounder of K2U, used the occasion to commend Yaba Local Council Development Area for availing his organisation the use of newly opened E-training center positing that it will enable them train youths who will be IT software and hardware compliant who will later become future entrepreneurs.
“I must have to commend Yaba LCDA for it’s magnanimity in giving us access to it’s newly refurbished E- Center which will enable us to have about 275 capacity training centres to work with our partners all over the world to train people.
” We’re not just training people, we are getting them ready to be able to work everywhere in the world with the IT knowledge they’ll acquire. The center will not only train the young ones but get them acquainted with various software applications which will be of immense benefit to them.
In his remarks, Executive Chairman of Yaba Local Council Development Area, Hon. Kayode Omiyale likened the Jigsur puzzle to quantitative and verbal aptitude text of old which was used to test the intelligence of children.
” The Jigsur puzzle is important to the children because it’s going to improve their level of reasoning and intelligence quotient and at the same time enable some of them who could not measure up in academics to make use of their brain and hand which will be an advantage to them.
He stated that the Council is collaborating with the organisers of the puzzle to expose the children to deep reasoning, positing that learning should not only be limited to reading and writing alone.
On the E- Center, he explained that his administration decided to refurbish and equip it with computers to enable youths of the Council Area be computer literate and IT compliant.
” It will interest you to know that this center was once an abandoned library because people see government property as nobody’s property. But my administration decided to change the narrative by restructuring it and turned it into E- Library where information teaching can be carried out.
” In doing this, we decided to make it an IT hub with 300 computers to enable children of our community be exposed to information technology. We’re trying as much as possible to make youths of this area, starting from kindergarten to be exposed to information technology which is now ruling the world”, he stressed.
“Remember that when you introduce these children to computer system early in life, they start to learn new things. The E- Center is a public infrastructure, we opened it for students and non students and am happy, they’re already making good use of it”, he concluded.
Hon. Omiyale announced that very soon, he will unveil a competition which will be for both junior and senior categories where different prizes will be dolled out to winners.
