Oyo Govt Charges Sports Associations to intensify support for athletes

The newly appointed Chairmen and Vice Chairmen for the Oyo State Sports Associations have been commended for their financial moral and logistics support extended to their various teams in the state.
The Oyo State Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Honourable Waslat Adegoke dropped this hint today in her office while inaugurating the Chairmen for the Oyo State Sports Associations held at the Ministry of Youths and Sports, Agodi Secretariat Ibadan, on Monday.
While addressing the stakeholders at the inauguration ceremony, the Commissioner remarked that the technical, logistic and financial support given to the various teams by their associations have contributed immensely to the victories recorded during the national and international tournaments including the last National Sports Festival held in Delta State wherein the state came fourth.
Hon. Adegoke stated further that the State Government will continue to solicit for the unalloyed and unflinching support of the leaders and members of the associations in repositioning and overhauling the Sports Sector in Oyo State since the government cannot provide all the needs of the athletes, especially now that the National Sports Festival is around the corner
Earlier, the Acting General Manager of the Oyo State Sports Council, Mr. Tunde Ajibike remarked that the selection of these personalities to serve as Chairmen and members of the various Sports Associations was based on their significant contributions to the development of Sports and their ingenuity towards motivating the athletes to achieve greater heights.
The Chairman Oyo State Athletics Association Dr. Isaac Ogada who responded on behalf of the newly inaugurated Chairmen expressed words of appreciation for the honour bestowed on them to lead their various associations.
He pledged that they will not relent in their efforts to ensure that the state athletes record outstanding achievements. He however solicited further encouragement of the athletes through provision of modern equipment and state of the arts facilities that will propel them to excel in their various chosen pastimes.
Speaking with newsmen after the event the Chairman of the Aquatic Association in the state, Dr. Akande Kazeem who was represented at the inauguration by Dr. Tayo Adegunju promised a new lease of life for the swimmers in the state with numerous new innovations lined up to consolidate on his previous achievements that made the Government to retain him as Aquatic Chairman and better transform the water sport.
The Educationist however, charged the athletes that will be representing the state in the swimming sport to go for gold while promising an instant incentive for any swimmer that wins medals at the 22nd National Sports Festival, tagged “Gateway Games,” will be held in Ogun State from May 16 to May 30, 2025.
