Obisia Nwankpa’s death, a huge loss for Nigerian sports – Aluo

Chairman of Nigeria National League (NNL) Mr. George Aluo has described the death of former National. Boxing Coach Obisia Nwankpa as not only sad but a huge loss to the country’s sports sector.

Golden Gloves Nwankpa, a former African and Commonwealth boxing champion as well as one time number one contender to WBC Light welter weight title, died early Wednesday in Lagos after a protracted illness and Aluo said that the death coming less than two months after the demise of former Super Eagles handler, Chairman Christian Chukwu is really unfortunate.

” I’m really saddened by the death of Obisia Nwankpa who during his boxing days put Nigeria on the world boxing map. He was a boxing icon and as the national coach, he guided our pugilists to win many laurens at the international level. Nigeria will really miss his death”, Aluo said

The NNL boss while commiserating with his family prayed that God will grant his soul eternal rest and give the family he left behind and the entire Nigerian sports family, the fortitude to bear the irreplaceable loss.
