Football club owners to organize maiden Super League in Imo State

Imo Football Club Owners Association, IFCOA, has announced the date for commencement of the maiden ‘Imo Super League’ as an annual soccer tournament with the debut starting on Saturday 5th July, 2025.

Addressing a press conference Friday in Owerri, coordinator of the club owners, Chief P.M.C Okeke disclosed that the soccer league will feature 16 registered football clubs based in Imo State and will be organized as a camp event at the OISA Stadium, Okpala in Ngor Okpala LGA of the state.

Okeke who stated that the association has put in place necessary measures to ensure a hitch-free competition told sports journalists and stakeholders that the matches will be streamed live online and beamed live on two channels.

He added that the tournament will also attract European scouts, including a digital scouting agency that will be monitoring the games remotely in search of outstanding soccer talents that will emerge from the game.

According to him, the club owners have resolved to ensure a free and transparent contest with no personal emotions attached except for the overall success of the coming soccer fiesta.

Okeke who commended the Imo State government for its support to the football family in the state hinted that the association got duly registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission, CAC, on 24th June, 2024 and has been working tirelessly on how to contribute to development of grassroot football in the state.

He noted that the idea of the Super League is to forge unity among club owners in the state with the aim of showcasing the talents and hospitable disposition of Imo State .

He used the occasion to solicit for sponsorship of the soccer tournament promising that such investment would offer immense reward in term of value for the amount invested.

“We using this opportunity to call on corporate organizations to support us and sponsor the league. We want to showcase our talents, we want to market our talents, provide market for the clubs and players in Imo State.

“This is probably the first in Nigeria. We always say that football is made in Imo State and that’s why we always take the lead. This is the first Super League being organized by club owners in Nigeria,” Okeke said.

Contributing, secretary of the group, Bro. Kingsley Azido gave the names of the 16 participating clubs as: in a neutral-format tournament. The teams are : Fr. EburuaJa FC, Malik-Pro FC, Akokwa United FC, Campos FC, OISA FC, Akonye FC, Blacksalt FC and Kun Khalifat FC.

Others include: Kun Khalifat B, AVE International FC, Ravens FA, Silver Sports FC, Amiyi Football Club/Academy, Acquire FA, Giant Brillers FC and East Coast Utd FC.

The association stated that all the clubs were drawn from the three senatorial zones of the state and officials of the matches will also come from the state.
