ITTF Africa West Regional Championship Excites Nigerian ex- International, Onazi
Former Super Eagles player, Ogenyi Onazi has expressed happiness with the quality of games played at the 2025 ITTF Africa West Regional Championship holding at the Molade Okoya Thomas Indoor Sports Hall of Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere, Lagos.
Onazi who was one of the special guests that graced the finals stated that he was impressed with the talents on display, describing it as an exciting tournament.
” I’m highly excited with the performance of players from the West Coast of Africa which is an indication that the ping pong game is fast developing in the sub- continent and I urge the players to put more efforts inorder to be at par with their colleagues from other parts of the world.
” You’re aware that table tennis is a popular game in.this part of the world and that was why I came here as a role model to motivate the players and am happy with what the continental body is doing to move the sports forward”, noted the one time Lazio player
The defensive midfielder who once featured for Denizlispor and Trabzonspor, in the Turkish top flight however appealed to corporate organisations to give adequate support to tennis as that will help on further development of the game.
” It’s important that I appeal to corporate organisations to invest in the game of tennis because Nigeria boasts of promising young talents in the game who will become future Aruna Quadri”, concluded Onazi who was a member of Nigeria’s squad for the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.
