WAFCON Fallout : Kikelomo Ajayi hails Gov.Aiyedatiwa over reward to Dimehin, others

A former Super Falcons Skipper, Kikelomo Ajayi, has showered praises on the Governor of Ondo State, Lucky Aiyedatiwa over the rewards givens to Falcons defender Tosin Demehin.
Ajayi said the gesture was encouraging to other youth athletes in the state and it would go a long way to make them get results for Ondo.
On Monday, Governor Aiyedatiwa described Super Falcons defender, Dimehin, as a worthy ambassador of the state following Nigeria’s triumph at the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
While hosting the player and other members of the team from Ondo State at the Government House in Akure, the governor congratulated the Super Falcons for their resilience, commitment, and patriotism, referring to them as national heroes.
Governor Aiyedatiwa announced a cash reward of ₦30m and a furnished apartment in Akure for Tosin Dimehin. He also gifted ₦15m each to Mary Akinsola, the team’s media officer, and Mary Oduboku, the secretary of the Super Falcons.
Ajayi, who also hails from Ondo State, noted that the gesture of the governor was intentional to spur other athletes to attain glory for the state.
“We have never seen a sports-loving governor like this. I am so happy that we have a governor that is interested in sports and those who are bringing honour to the state. Otunba Dele Ajayi, the FA boss is doing a good job and things will get better in the coming days.
“My mummy is from Ilaje and my daddy from Akure, I am proud of what is happening in the state and I give God the glory that I also contributed my quota in my active years by winning a total of five WAFCON titles including two as the captain of the state.
“I am positive things will get better in the state because I also have my pet programme coming up with the aim of giving back to the society such that more Ondo youths will embrace sports,” Ajayi stressed.
