From George Aluo, Uyo
Assistant Parish Priest of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Uyo Akwa Ibom State in South South Nigeria, Rev. Fr. Pius Umouman has warned Christians against amassing wealth by all means.
Fr. Umouman while delivering his homily today at the 6 am Mass said just like Prophet Amos warned in the scripture (Amos 8:4-7) the people of God must not be dubious in an attempt to make money.
In his words…”if you are in your office and use your pen to convert N150,000 to N1.5m by adding two zeros and come to church to do thanksgiving donating N5,000,000 you are not going to end where christians expect to be after life here on earth. Honestly should be the watchword for every Christian irrespective of the position you hold. He who is not honest when he is saddled with a very little position can not be honest when called to hold higher responsibility.”
Fr. Umouman who was also celebrating his priestly ordination thanked all those who have supported him in his priestly journey in the Lords vineyard even as he assured his parishioners of his spiritual support.
The choir during and after the mass rendered some special songs for the priest who was visibly overjoyed with the show of love from his parishioners.
