The General Secretary of Nigeria Football Federation, Dr Mohammed Sanusi, has hailed the Board of Editors and Panel of Judges of Daily Telegraph Publishing Company Limited (publishers of New Telegraph, Saturday Telegraph and Sunday Telegraph newspapers) for their decision to honour the Senior Women National Team, Super Falcons.
Following the Super Falcons’ 10th triumph at the Women Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco last summer, the Daily Telegraph Publishing Company Limited has decided to present a Special Recognition Award to the team at its New Telegraph Awards Ceremony taking place in Lagos on Friday, 13thFebruary 2026.
“We appreciate and applaud the nomination and eventual choice of the Super Falcons for the special recognition award by Daily Telegraph Publishing Company Limited. Surely, the Falcons deserve recognition and love for all the glory they have continued to bring to our dear country over the decades.
“Mission X was an inspired campaign and our team delivered superbly, which made everyone happy. We are already looking forward to the team successfully retaining the trophy this year, and in the process qualifying for next year’s FIFA Women’s World Cup finals in Brazil,” Sanusi said.
Establishing the basis for the special recognition, the leading newspaper house wrote: “We recall the exploits of the Falcons in the continent and beyond in the past years especially in 2025. The team travelled to Morocco for the Women Africa Cup of Nations and against all odds excelled in style. It was the 13th edition of WAFCON and Nigeria with nine titles in the kitty went for the tournament chasing the 10th title.
“The Falcons on their way to the final went ahead to edge out defending champions, the Banyana Banyana of South Africa. In the final, the Falcons were two goals down against host Morocco but somehow, the Nigerian ladies fought hard to level up at 2-2and went ahead to win 3-2 in regulation time before the huge crowd supporting the home team, Atlas Lionesses of Morocco.”
