Chairman of National Sports Commission (NSC), Mallam Shehu Dikko has declared that very soon, the MKO Abiola National Stadium will be turned into a Sports City.

He made the declaration during the foundation laying ceremony of the Players’ hostel and other sporting facilities to be constructed by the Nigeria Football Federation with the support of world football governing body, FIFA.

Dikko disclosed that beyond the NFF/FIFA projects the NSC plans to convert the entire MKO Abiola Stadium into a full fledged world class sports city that would have shopping malls, hotels, banks, restaurants and other facilities.
“This arena would be a full fledged sports city just like we have in other climes…this is the direction we are going,” Dikko said.
Continuing, the NSC boss said…
‘I’m highly impressed with what the NFF is doing because by the time these facilities are completed and put to use, the stadium will take another shape and become the Sports City it ought to be as is seen in other climes.”

He stressed that the Commission will continue to support the NFF in ensuring that the projects are completed on time and also well maintained so that it will not be like other sporting facilities that are suffering neglect after huge amounts of money were used to construct them.

The number one sports person in the country appealed to football stakeholders in the country to continue to support the NFF and engage them in constructive criticism where necessary and avoid pull them down syndrome which he says does the country football no good.
