Amuneke backs Africa Youth Cup
Former Super Eagles forward and incumbent manager of the Taifa Stars of Tanzania, Emmanuel Amuneke has thrown his weight behind the maiden edition of the Africa Youth Cup billed for early next year in Praia, Cape Verde.
Amuneke while hailing the organizers of the tournament said it is an event that would impact positively on African football, declaring that he is looking forward to the youth soccer fiesta that is attracting teams from different parts of the world.
“I m excited that the organizers are putting together this tournament in Africa. African teams have been going to Europe, South America and other places to feature in such tournaments. It is good Africa is hosting her first ever international youth tournament. I would love to be in Cape Verde next year, time permitting to be part of the soccer festival,” Amuneke said.
Amuneke noted that Serahanasports, which in conjunction with Cape Verdean soccer authorities are organizing the tournament, is a reputable organization that has been involved in several international youth soccer tournaments.
“My academy has participated in youth tournaments in which Serahanasports was involved and I know what they are capable of doing. I know they would do a good job now that they are bringing the first ever international youth soccer festival to Africa.”
It would be noted that Tanzania has signaled their intention to use the Cape Verde tournament to prepare their U17 team for the CAF U-17 Nations Cup which they (Tanzania) are hosting next summer.
Some of the teams that have confirmed their participation in the tournament slated to run from April 19-27 include SL Benfica (Portugal), Vasco Da Gama (Brazil) Kegue FC (Togo) and Academies FC Bamako ( Mali).
