Anambra FA, Akubudike Energy Unveil Statewide Football League with N3.8 Million in Prizes

In it’s bid to develop football at the grassroots, the Anambra State Football Association has announced a strategic partnership with Akubudike Energy Limited to launch a new football league aimed at uniting communities and nurturing local talent across the state.
The Anambra State Football League is slated to kick off on August 24, 2025, with the opening match scheduled to take place at the Awka City Stadium. The competition will feature teams drawn from all communities and affiliated clubs within the state, promising exciting action and fierce rivalries on the pitch.
Speaking at the unveiling ceremony ,Anambra FA Chairman Chikelue Iloenyosi emphasized the importance of the initiative in providing a platform for young talents to showcase their skills while promoting unity through sports.
“This partnership with Akubudike Energy Limited is a step forward in our commitment to grassroots football. We’re not just building players, we’re building communities,” Iloenyosi said.
The competition comes with a total prize pool of ₦3.8 million, with the following breakdown:
(i) Champions – ₦2 million
(ii) Runners-up – ₦1 million
( iii) Third place – ₦500,000
( iv) Fourth place – ₦200,000
In addition, there will be individual awards of ₦50,000 each for standout performers in the following categories:
( A) Best Goalkeeper
( B) Best Player
( C) Top Scorer
( D) Best Behaved Team
The league is expected to attract significant interest from fans, local scouts, and community leaders, with matches to be played across various zones in Anambra State.
With this initiative, Anambra FA and Akubudike Energy are setting a strong example of private-public partnership in sports development, with hopes that the league could become a model for other states in Nigeria.
