Benjamin Uwajumogu College of Education scales through NCCE accreditation

It has been jubilation galore at Benjamin Uwajumogu (State) College of Education, Isinweke in Ihitte Uboma Local Government Area of Imo State, following the good news that emanated from National Commission for Colleges of Education, (NCCE) that the Imo State Government owned tertiary institution has gained full accreditation in 7 schools as well as in 49 courses being offered by the barely 5 year old tertiary institution.

The news of the institution’s full accreditation, together with her 49 courses of studies is contained in a 9 paged letter from the Commission titled : Result of Accreditation Exercise, with reference number: NCCE/AP/IMCOE/19/ Vol.1/17 dated 21st July, 2024, addressed to the Provost of the College and signed by Dr. Umar Adamu Kwami, the Commission’s Director, Academic Programmes Department on behalf of Prof. Paulinus Chijioke Okwelle, the Executive Secretary.

Okwelle recalled that the Commission team of 14 members from Abuja led by Dr. Mrs Stella Awah visited the College between Sunday 3rd March to Friday 8th March, 2024 for the sole purpose of maiden accrediting both institutional and programmes accreditation.

The Executive Secretary pointed out that, following the recommendations of the Academic Programmes Department, that the management of the Commission at its 307 regular meeting on Friday 31st May, 2024 approved the results of the exercise as full accreditation for the College as well as her 49 courses of studies.

He further informed that the full accreditation status allows the institution to continue to run the programmes for the next 5 years before another accreditation visitation advising on the need that the recommendations made in the report must be addressed without delay.

Okwelle commended Imo State Government under the leadership of Senator Hope Uzodimma as well as the College Management for the outstanding performance.

Among the courses the College bagged full accreditation to run are: Computer Science, General Education, Primary Education Studies, Early Child Care and Education, Business Education, Fine and Applied Arts, Political Science Education, Social Studies Education, Economics Education, History, Christian Religious Studies, Cultural and Creative Arts, English Language and Igbo Language.

Others include Mathematics Education, French Language, Physics Education, Biology Education, Chemistry Education, Integrated Science Education, Physical and Health Education and Mathematics Education among others.

In her reaction, Dr. Mrs. Chinyere Nwachukwu, the Provost of the College expressed gratitude to God and Governor Hope Uzodimma for being instruments in the realization of the institution’s age long historical dream of being one of the frontline Colleges of Education in Nigeria.

According to Nwachukwu, ” I feel delighted and dignified, this to me, is a dream come true, after so many years of the existence of the College, it has really taken a place among the comity of Colleges of Education in Nigeria.

” I thank God Almighty who made it possible using Governor Hope Odidika Uzodimma, as the beckon of the institution’s destiny helper. The Governor’s support and encouragement was the catalyst in the success story of the College’s maiden full accreditation”.

The Provost pointed out that the College of Education has 7 schools, which are General Education, Secondary Education Languages, Secondary Education Arts and Social Sciences and Secondary Education Sciences.

Others include; Secondary Vocational and Technical Education, Early Childhood Care and Primary Education.

She informed that the College has 49 Course Programmes that were given full accreditations, while thanking the entire management, staff and students of the College for working tirelessly in ensuring that the institution achieved the milestone.

Nwachukwu reassured that the accreditation will be one of the tonics that will boost the institution’s population strength while calling on prospective students in Nigeria and abroad seeking admission to choose the College as their prime institution of learning.

She also revealed that the College has advanced plans to commence degree programmes in her Educational courses, in the next few months.

The Provost passionately appealed to the State Government not to relent in her supports to education in the State, especially, to Benjamin Uwajumogu (State) College of Education, Ihitte Uboma, while reassuring of her administration’s unflinching commitments in the sustainable growth, advancement and transformations of the College.
