Bishop Onah Slams Attempts At Altering God’s Definition of Gender

Growing global attempts to alter God’s definition of gender has been described as unfortunate and regrettable aberration.

Catholic Bishop of Nsukka Diocese Most Rev.(Prof) Godfrey Igwebuike Onah who made the submission, noted that God from inception recognised and created two genders, male and Female, “Male and Female he created them”

Speaking at the 3-day 2025 Lagos Archdiocesan Catholic Men Organisation of Nigeria (LACMON) Convention held at St. Gregory College Ikoyi, Bishop Onah noted that the growing freedom to choose whether to be male, female, neither or both is not only absurd but runs contrary to God’s design and objective.

In his paper titled “Confused Gender Ideology And Family Life”, Onah who was called from the academia to become the second Bishop of Nsukka Diocese in April 2023 by Late Pope Francis, reminded proponents of gender manipulation that life is indeed a gift from God that should be appreciated and lived according to his desire, adding “If we accept that life is given, then we accept that there is a giver, and that giver, is God himself and he gives us life according to our nature, and that nature is determined by him and not chosen. And in the case of our first humans, it is given to us as man and woman, as male or female.

That any attempt to alter that through any other ideological manipulation or even surgical mutilation is a declaration of the absence of the giver of life.

Anybody who accepts that God exists and created human beings according to their natures, will not attempt to change that nature on his or her own, so that we know that the source of all these things about gender manipulation and the ideology that you can choose who you are in terms of whether you are male, female neither or both are subtle expression of atheism, that God does not exist”

Earlier in his opener, LACMON President, Barrister Kingsley Ekwem had posited that the coming of AI and other innovations aimed at improving communications boasts of some positives, men must be alive and avoid slumber in checkmating the negatives especially as it relates to marriage and family institutions. “We have to resist misguided plans to destroy our marriage and family institutions.

We have to retreat and where appropriate, return to order, an order created and ordained by God whose actions are unquestionably good always”, he submitted.

And in what could pass for practical approach to bridging the gap especially for Entrepreneurs who struggle to balance business with family role, Tech Guru and Chairman of Zenox Group, Leo Stan Ekeh, maintained that there is no excuse for failure in playing fatherly role in the Family.

The multiple award winning Tech Mogul who delivered his paper titled “Business Entrepreneurship and Family Life virtually at the Convention, urged men to put their wives and Children in Family wassap Group so as to maintain regular contact irrespective of their location. That according to him, is the benefit of digitalisation, even as he noted that “No nation can claim to be independent without technological independence”

Over 11,000 Catholic men from 20 Deaneries in the Lagos Archdiocese attended the Convention. Aside from discussions on the confused gender palaver, other burning issues that were x-rayed by highly informed discussants include the need for men to resist the temptation to out-source their responsibilities in the upbringing of their children to AI or any other device for that matter.

“Your Essence, your presence and your influence must be felt in the family despite the changing trends” was the clarion call to all men.
