Christian Chukwu’s death, a great loss to the nation- Sanni Toro

Former Secretary General of Nigeria Football Association, Alhaji Sanni Toro, has described the death of former Captain and Chief Coach of the Super Eagles, Chairman Christian Chukwu as a great loss to the nation.

Christian Chukwu who captained the national team to win it’s first Nations Cup on home soil in 1980 as well as Chief Coach when Super Eagles qualified and participated in the 1994 World Cup and that year’s African Cup died Saturday morning at the age of 74.

In an interview with newstap.com.ng, the renowned sports administrator described the late Chukwu as a perfect gentleman and great footballer whose leadership qualities contributed greatly to the growth of the country’s football noting that it will be very difficult to forget his contributions to the country’s football both as a player and coach.

According to him, he was shocked to hear about his death because he sends him greetings everyday but noted that he’s happy that he lived a fulfilled life.

“The death of Christian Chukwu was shocking to me because I never expected it this time. Here was a man who sends greetings to me every morning.
“He was a perfect gentleman, leader of men and a great defender who will always be remembered for his calmness, dedication, commitment and contributions to the country’s football and respect for sports administrators”, he stressed.

Toro while sending his sincere condolences to his immediate family and the entire sports family, prayed that God Almighty will grant his soul eternal rest and those he left behind the fortitude to bear the irreplaceable loss.
