Commissioner applauds Imo athletes performance at National Youth Games

The Imo State Commissioner for Sports, Hon. Obinna Evarestus Onyeocha has commended the state contingent to the just concluded National Youth Games, NYG, held at Asaba, the Delta State capital, for their impressive performance at the event.
Onyeocha made his feelings known during an interactive session with members of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, SWAN, Imo State chapter in his office recently.
The Commissioner expressed delight that Imo young athletes won a total of 17 medals, surpassing the contingent’s previous records just as he posited that the state’s days of glory are here.
He listed the medal to include; Gold in Cricket,Gold in Abula (Female Team), Silver in Abula (Male Team), Eight Silver Medals in Para-athletics, Darts, and other events, Six Bronze Medals as well as three medals, Gold in Shooting-a sport Imo participated in for the first time.
Onyeocha who assured of his Ministry’s intention to sustain the tempo by ensuring early camping and rediscovering Secondary School games in the state with a view to picking talented children of 12 years in order to harnessing their potentials.
He announced the state Government’s plans to continue to give the athletes that particepated in the last National Youth Games and others a continued training to fortify them before any national engagements.
Onyeocha used the occasion to commend the Imo State chapter of SWAN, for their good work and team spirit of partnership with the Ministry of Sports in the state via effective and up-to-date coverage of the NYG and Team Imo.
