Ejection of students : FGGC, Enugu incurs wrath of social crusader

From Everest Ezihe, Owerri

The recent decision by the management of Federal Government Girl’s College, Enugu in Enugu State asking all the SS3 students taking NECO and WAEC examinations to leave their dormitories and be coming from home for their remaining examinations has incurred the wrath of Mrs. Dorothy Ezeji, a social crusader who described the action as insensitive.

Ezeji disclosed this in Owerri on Monday while complaining bitterly on the school authority’s decision.

She noted that most of the under aged students  are girl child who are from distance homes like Imo, Anambra, Lagos, Abuja, Abia, Rivers among other States as the school is a  first class unity college.

She insisted that the action could expose the students to danger of bad behaviours like prostitution, lesbianism, clubbing among other anti social vices expressing doubt if the appropriate authorities within the Federal Ministry of Education are aware of the decision.

Recall that the  SS3 Students of the school  were ejected out of the school dormitory, following alleged unbecoming bad behaviours of  seven students of the school who are also said to be notorious in leaving the dormitory without permission.

The  Authority learnt that  there was a rift between the seven notorious students and staff of the college who allegedly went outside the school for hours, without exit permits and wanted as usual to forcefully enter the school’s dormitory in the night where they legally belong but unknown to them, the house masters  had gotten information of their illegal movement and were ready for them, thus, following a tip off, the house Masters caught them in their bid to enter the dormitory illegally.

However, luck ran against the girl’s ring leader as she was caught but unfortunately escaped before morning, then with the combined efforts of the School Security Men, another member of the gang was also arrested that night when she wanted to exit through the school gate. When struggle and fight ensued, she overpower the aged security men and also escaped.

Unfortunately, when the school Principal  came to the school in the morning, he was informed of the incident which prompted him to assemble all the SS3 students of the College and asked them to vacate the dormitories immediately and  advised them to be coming from their various homes to take their remaining WAEC and NECO examinations, without minding the attendant negative implications.

The social crusader pointed out that some parents of the SS3 students on hearing what happened and the ejection punishment, appealed to the Principal on the need not to punish the guilty with innocent students but he maintained his stand of wholistic ejection without taking into consideration the consequences on their remaining WAEC and NECO examinations.

She maintained that some of the parents were disillusioned over the act of punishing the guilty with the innocent, lamenting also that they paid heavily for accommodation and feeding within the session, yet the students were treated with disdain and without any refund, whatsoever.
