Ahead of NLO: Oyo Dep. Gov. Assures Support To Housing Corp. FC
The Deputy Governor of Oyo State, Chief Adebayo Lawal has assured the giant killer in the last Federations Cup, Oyo State Housing Corporation Football Club of support as the team continues its preparations for the Nationwide League One (NLO), which is the third-tier level of club football in Nigeria.
The Deputy Governor who was the one that resuscitated the in 2022 while serving as the chairman of the corporation said the team has greatly justified the decision of resuscitating them by becoming an instant force to be reckoned with in the Nigeria football family with its good performance posted during the last Federations Cup.
It will be recalled that Housing Corporation Football Club was one of the representatives of Oyo State at the national level of the 2022 Federations Cup after defeating Crown FC of Ogbomoso to qualify along with Shaki United. Housing FC defeated Jigawa Golden Stars at the round of 64 of the AITEO Cup at the Minna Township Stadium before losing narrowly to DMD FC, of Borno state at the Abuja Area 3 Stadium in the round of 32.
“I’m happy that Housing Corp. FC has instantly justified our decision to revive the team that had been in the doldrums for many years by becoming a force to be reckoned with and making the State proud. We bring back the club because of its rich track records in the history of Nigerian football.
“Housing FC as it used to be called in the past has produced notable names in Nigerian football which includes Mudasiru Lawal, Segun Odegbami, Nathaniel Adewole, Ben James, Emman Okala and Dele Adeleye, hence such club cannot be allowed to go extinction, and by bringing it back, it has provided employment opportunities for our youths in Oyo State” His Excellency Barr. Bayo Lawal noted.
He added that the administration in the state led by Engr. Seyi Makinde has demonstrated its love for sports and youth oriented programs as it is evident in the spate of huge development being brought into the state by the administration.
“The remodeling of the Lekan Salami Sports Complex and many other stadiums in all major cities in the state by this administration is a testament of the governor’s knowhow of the importance of youth and sports development in boosting the human and financial capital of our beloved state”.
