“The only benefit we get is to sleep and eat hotel food…”
Super Eagles assistant coaches have cried out that the nation’s soccer governing body, Nff has been slave driving them since they got the job over two years ago.
They revealed that they have been working without getting a dime as salary and without any signed contract.
One of the affected coaches, goalkeepers trainer Ike Shorunmu who confirmed this much in a chat with newstap.com.ng said himself and his colleagues have not earned a dime as salary…not even a Kobo as allowance.
“All we get is promises and to sleep and eat hotel food. When we went to Algeria for a game we insisted that we should be given contract to sign they said that would be done when we get back home. Since then, we have literally not returned from Algeria… This contract thing dates back to before the Nff election in Benin last year. They said it would be sorted out after the election in Benin. Since after the election what we hear is the same story. Things are not done that way. We are not paid salaries, no allowances, no contract…what kind of job is that,” Shorunmu queried.
Interestingly, the Nff has told the assistant coaches not to be part of the game against Guinea Bissau saying it is at the instance of the team’s Portuguese manager Jose Peseiro who himself is also being owed salaries.
Efforts made to reach president of the soccer federation, Ibrahim Gusau proved abortive.
But competent source disclosed that the soccer federation is broke as most of her sponsors have resolved to back out after the exit of former president Amaju Melvin Pinnick.
