FASU Games: LASU football team beat FUOYE, grab maximum point

After playing a 1-1 draw against Kenyatta University in their first Group A match on Sunday at the ongoing 11th All Africa University Games, co- host, Lagos State University bounced back to reckoning when they defeated Federal University Oye Ekiti by 2-1 on Match Day 2.

The game played at LASU Sports Centre, Ojo, saw the LASU boys drawing the first blood after ten minutes of play, when a volley from Okoro Emmanuel beat their opponents goalkeeper for the first goal of the match

After the curtain raiser, both teams, took the game to each other’s half, making some incursions in their opponents’ goal area but it was not untill after 38 minutes of play that Teniola Samuel scored an equalizer for the Ekiti boys through a goal mouth scramble to ensure that the first stanza ended 1-1 apiece.

Both teams came into the second half determined to grab the three points at stake, with constant incursions into each other’s goal area with nothing to show for their effort.
However it was a dying minute strike by Aiyeni Elijah that separated the two teams and ensured that the game ended 2-1 in favour of Lagos State University.

In his post match interview, Coach of LASU Team, Arubiewe Ramon commended ‘Team FUOYE’ for giving his team a good fight which made the game very explosive even as he stated that the last minute changes he made turned the match in their favour.

” I must say that this victory was not easy and I have to commend the guys from Federal University Oye Ekiti for their resilience and quality display which made the match entertaining and explosive.

” It’s equally important to state that the last minute changes I made did the magic for me and I hope to continue on the same pedestal in our last Group game against Ghana tomorrow”, he stressed.
He commended the Vice Chancellor and the entire Governing Council , staff and students of LASU for their support, pledging not to disappoint the University Community.

Meanwhile Coach of Federal University f Oye Ekiti, Blessing Ayodeji Ojo has blamed the loss of his team to LASU to home advantage and bad officiating.
According to him there was no proper accreditation of players which led to LASU fielding three to four unregistered players but as host, it was ignored.
” My boys played very well but the host made good use of home advantage. The accreditation of players was not properly done but it was overlooked.and I suspect they used between three to four players who were not registered for this championship.
” You’ll also agree with me that the centre referee was biased and took some questionable decisions which affected our play”, he lamented

With this result, Kenyatta University is topping Group A with four points, same with LASU but with a superior goal aggregate. FUOYE is third on the log followed by Ghana.
In the last match of the Group, Lagos State University will face University of Ghana while Group leaders, Kenyatta University will face Federal University Oye Ekiti.
