FASU Games: UNILAG hosting to win, says Otegbeye

University of Lagos athletics coach, Fumi Otegbeye says that the target of the leading citadel of learning in the country at the 11th All Africa University Games is to emerge the overall winners of the competition.

In an interview with our correspondent Friday, she expressed confidence that the efforts the management of the institution has put in hosting the championship will yield positive result with the University topping the medals table.
” We’ve prepared adequately for this Games and the University management has also put in a lot of resources and logistics to make it a seamless and memorable championship.
” Our target is to emerge the overall winners of the competition not by cheating but by hard work and I believe that the adequate preparation which we’ve done will see us achieve that objective.

Coach Otegbeye who identified athletics, scrabble, chessl and volleyball as some of the sports where they’ll have a medal haul described some of the benefits of the Games to include enabling the students interact and share social cultural ideas with their counterparts from other countries of the continent and talent identification amongst other benefits.

“The benefits of the tournament is enormous. As you can see, we’re expecting excitement and a lot of social interaction between students from various Universities in the continent who as the game progresses, socialize, interact and share intercultural ideas .
” The Games will also enable us to have good athletes that will represent the continent at intercontinental competitions as well as discover talents that will take over from our ageing athletes”, she stressed.
She advised her athletes to go into the Games with boldness and confidence since according to her they’re well prepared for the challenge
