Gruesome Murder : Deceased’s Family Cries to Gov. Makinde, Demands Review of DPP Result over Case
Determined to secure justice against the killer of their son, the family of the late Olaniyan Daniel has petitioned the Executive Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde, demanding his urgent intervention, following the result that came out from the Directorate of Public Prosecution, which exonerated the suspects in the case despite overwhelming evidence provided by the Police.
A powerfully worded petition written by Adebayo Adegbite and Co. of Divine Heights Chambers, which was titled “Re: Gruesome Murder of Mr. Daniel Olaniyan by Sakiru Mustapha, Isiaka Oladigbolu, Muritala Adigun Ifaremi, Ayoade Taiwo Olusola, and their Cohorts: Appeal for Intervention and Justice, dated 14th May 2025, has been forwarded to the Governor and made available to the press.
The family in the petition appealed to Gov. Makinde as the Chief Executive Officer of the state, who has a domineering influence and control over the Honorable Attorney-General to remedy what they consider the obvious wrong and injustice done to the deceased, whose blood, like Abel is crying to His Excellency for a redress.
The petition read thus: “It is sorrowful to note that despite the receipt of the aforementioned letter, a copy of which was also served on the Honourable Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice of Oyo State, a legal advice with Reference No.: 4002/5564/184 dated the 6th day of May 2025, wherein the Learned Attorney General through the office of the Directorate of Public Prosecution exonerated and set free all the suspects in these, went ahead and caused to be issued.”
“Notwithstanding the overwhelming evidence provided and forwarded by the Police to the office of the Directorate of Public Prosecution, through the additional bundle of paper vide the letter with Reference No.: CB.:3514/OY/X/LEG/VOL.75/666 dated the 30th day of April 2025 and received at the office of the Directorate of Public Prosecution on the 2nd day of May 2025, FOUR clear days before the issuance of the said legal advice signed by one A.T. Alabi (Mrs.) (State Counsel), for the Director of Public Prosecution.”
“It is apparent from the summary of the facts as contained in paragraph 2 of the said legal advice that the initial bundle of papers as compiled by the Police in the course of the investigation by its ADR Department and the additional bundle of documents compiled by the Homicide Section of the State CID, Iyaganku, Ibadan, both in the possession of the Director of Public Prosecution, were not matched and holistically ventilated.
The resultant failure of this expected exercise is the aforesaid legal advice discharging the entire suspect in the face of the glaring evidence pointing to the contrary,” the petition reads in part.
They, however, through the petition, demanded a thorough review of the case by the Attorney-General in view of the additional evidence supplied to his office by the Police on the 2nd day of May 2025.
The Olaniyan family also appealed that a coroner should be set up with a view to conducting an inquest to reveal the cause of death of the deceased and the roles of the suspects who are walking free on the street and boasting that they have the right connections and influence in the government circle, however, crying for justice to be served in accordance with the law and rules of natural justice.
