GWR Fight : House Majority Leader Takes Bashi Ali’s case to the National Assembly

Majority Leader of the House of Representatives, Prof. Julius Ihonvbere has presented a petition to the National Assembly calling on the house to intervene in the injustice meted out to former WBF Cruiserweight champion, Bash Ali who wants to stage a Guinness Book of World Record fight in the country.
In the petition to the green chambers of the assembly, Hon Ihonvbere who represents Owan Federal Constituency of Edo State, noted that it’s
it’s unfortunate and a pervertion of justice that for close to 17 years, Bash Ali has been trying to write the country’s name in gold but has been frustrated by sone government officials; saying that it’s high time the national Assembly wades into the matter to ensure that the fight takes place.
According to him, Bash Ali has brought glory to the country and not supporting him for the Guinness world record fight is a great injustice to the boxing icon who holds a national honour of Member of the Order of the Niger (MON).

Meanwhile, Bash Ali has reaffirmed his determination to host his long-awaited WBF Boxing Project in Nigeria, insisting that no amount of opposition or alleged corruption by government officials will stop the event from taking place.

He described the intervention of the National Assembly as a positive step towards realizing his historic fight.

According to the statement, “On Tuesday, October 28, 2025, the House of Representatives of the Federal Republic of Nigeria received a petition on the fight and are now personally handling the injustice caused by the corrupt criminals in this government.”

He continued, “Like I have always said, whether the criminals in government like it or not, this historic fight will hold in our great country, Nigeria.

Bash Ali, a former world cruiserweight champion, has been advocating for the WBF Boxing Project, which he describes as a landmark event that would not only promote Nigerian boxing globally but also be the first Guinness Fight of World record fight ever hosted in Africa.

Bash Ali, known for his outspoken and resilient nature, said the proposed fight would place Nigeria at the center of global sports attention, attract investment, and inspire a new generation of athletes.
