Henry Nwosu: Naze Community To Host Requiem Novelty Football Match

The Naze community in Owerri North LGA, Imo State, is set to honour her late son and former Super Eagles midfielder, Henry Nwosu, with a Requiem Novelty football match.
The event, dubbed “The Clash of Titans”, will feature Naze All Stars taking on Imo Football Legends on April 5th, Easter Sunday, at 4pm at Naze Secondary School.
The details of the novelty were revealed after a football training session took place on Thursday morning at Naze Secondary School. Legends and former players who participated in the Henry Nwosu Cup took a decision to take the lead in paying tribute to the late former Super Eagles player, who founded the community football tournament, Henry Nwosu Cup, in 1985.
Naze All Stars will comprise all Naze sons who have played at some point in their life in the popular ‘Henry Nwosu Cup’ since it was founded, while the Imo Football Legends will comprise notable players from across Imo State. The event is organized by Ikuku Oma Foundation in conjunction with Naze Football Federation.
Since the Henry Nwosu Cup was founded by the late football legend in 1985, the tournament, which is played during the Christmas season, has become a major source of entertainment and unity in Naze.
Aside from this, some Naze sons and daughters have also benefited from the social gathering through marriages which were fostered during match days.
Neighbouring communities such as Ulakwo, Agbala, Egbu, and others have also found their way to Naze over the years to come and watch the matches, as the entertainment which the Henry Nwosu Cup has provided over the years has been inspirational.
There are ongoing speculations suggesting that Heartland Manager and former Super Eagles star, Emmanuel Amuneke, might lead the Imo Football Legends team on Sunday evening when they take on Henry Nwosu’s kinsmen.
Meanwhile, members of the Naze All Stars who have indicated interest to feature in the game are Ikuku Oma, Prof. Joe-Ken Nzerem, Ejike Urewuji, Nda Gboko, Oga Ekete, Oga Sarge, Oga Cho Cho, Man of God, Baba Urch, Oga Eshi ke Naze, Chief Agba I, Mmiri The Crown Prince (No. 1 goalkeeper), Mr. Obiọma, Alkaline, and others.
Since the news of the demise of Henry Nwosu was broken by his former teammate, Segun Odegbami, on March 14, 2026, the Naze community has continued to reminisce about the former Super Eagles legend, who contributed immensely towards bringing joy to the Naze community by establishing the Henry Nwosu Cup.
