HFN Faults Guinea Federation Over Misleading Friendly Match Report
The Handball Federation of Nigeria (HFN) has described as misleading, a report published by the Guinea Handball Federation claiming that its National U-20 Women’s Team defeated the Nigerian Women’s National Team in a preparatory friendly match in Abuja.
In a statement by the HFN, it stated unequivocally that the Nigerian Women’s National Team did not participate in any friendly match with the Guinean team as claimed in the publication.
“For the avoidance of doubt, the Guinean team played against an Abuja Selected Women’s Team in an unofficial friendly match and not the Nigerian Women’s National Team.
“The Federation therefore considers the claim by the Guinea Handball Federation as inaccurate and misleading, and urges that the information be corrected in the interest of fairness and proper record keeping.
Furthermore, the Handball Federation of Nigeria stated that it was not formally notified that the Guinean National Women’s Handball Team was in Nigeria for visa processing at the Embassy of Bulgaria in Abuja ahead of the IHF Women’s Intercontinental Trophy scheduled to take place later this year in Sofia, Bulgaria.
“As the governing body for handball in Nigeria, the Federation considers it important that proper communication and established protocols are observed when national teams of other countries are in Nigeria for official engagements.
“The HFN therefore wishes to bring this development to the attention of the International Handball Federation (IHF), the Confederation of African Handball (CAHB), and the National Sports Commission (NSC) for their information and necessary note.
The statement noted that the Handball Federation of Nigeria remains committed to upholding professionalism, transparency, and the integrity of its national teams.
