Ikorodu Spires 5-Aside Divisional Qualifiers Hits Semi-Final Stage
The excitement continues at the Spires 5-Aside Naija Street Soccer Tournament Divisional Qualifiers in Ikorodu. After four entertaining matches the stage is now set for a pulsating semi-finals on Wednesday.
The teams set for battle in the last Four are Evagrine FC, New Generation Football Club, Orion And Leon FC, and Marine Boys Football Club.
For a place in the semi-finals, Evagrine FC survived a 9 goals thriller against Oladunjoye FC as they secured a 5-4 triumph. Orion And Leon FC annihilated Opopo Ona-Iwo Mimo Football club 6-1. New Generation FC secured a record 11-2 victory over Diamond Football Club, while Marine Boys down Better Tomorrow ISA FC 6-2 in yet another high scoring fixture.
In what promises to be another round of entertaining matches. The semi-finals takes center stage on Wednesday May 14th, at Deeonis Football Court, NITEL, Ota-Ona, Ikorodu. For a place in the final, Evagrin FC will lock-horns against New Generation Football Club, while
Orion & Leon FC will square up against Marine Boys Football Club.
The initiator of the Spires 5-Aside Naija Street Soccer Tournament Dr. Bankole Allibay, has called on residents of Ikorodu to come out in their numbers and enjoy the best of 5-Aside football. Allibay who was President at Deeonis Football Court in Ota-Ona on Saturday said the community engagement has been encouraging since the first game of qualifiers in the “OGA” division.
In his words: “We had a splendid outing at the Ikeja division and I make bold to say that Ikorodu is also living up to expectations based on the large football community in and around the division”.
” This is a community based initiative aimed at building a robust social networking environment and productive engagement among the host communities, and most importantly to empower young people through sports”. Allibay added.
Aside securing a spot in the group stage of the main tournament, the first placed teams in each of the divisional qualifiers will receive the sum of N500,000, the first runner-up will pocket N300,000, while the third placed side will get the sum of N100,000 as prize money.
Sixteen(16) teams across the five diversions in Lagos will compete in the 2025 Spires 5-Aside Naija Street Soccer Tourney. Three teams will qualify from each division, as well as the overall best losser across board.
