Inter-club sports fiesta ends at Lagos Country Club

It was fun galore and entertainment at it’s highest level when one of the foremost recreational clubs in the country, Lagos Country Club last Saturday hosted Benin Club to the finals of the 2023 maiden inter- club sporting fiesta which was organised to cement relationship between the two sister clubs.
The event which took off on Thursday with the grand finale on Saturday attracted more than 100 members from the Benin Club led by their President, Henry Omoregie Esq and his vice, Dr.Evabziegbere Isibor and executive members of all the sports sections of the club.
Speaking at the fun filled event, President of Lagos Country Club, Seyi Adewumi, said the championship which coincided with his first 100 days in office was put together to enable members recreate, interact , catch fun, burn out calories and network; saying that the club will always encourage many of such events in future
According to him, as part of strengthening the relationship between both clubs, Lagos country club will soon embark on a return visit to Benin Club while arrangement is also on to visit a sports club in Ghana as a way of building relationship among clubs in the West African sub- region.
“I’m really excited that this tournament coincided with my first 100 days in office and we hope to organise more of such inter-club competitions in future.
“My advice is that similar clubs should emulate what Lagos Country Club is doing and engage in inter- club visits as it helps in building bridges of friendship”, he stressed.
Also speaking, President of Benin Club and his vice in separate interviews, expressed happiness with the spirit of sportsmanship among the teams just as they commended their host for their hospitality.
“Members of the Benin Club are happy with the hospitality accorded to us by our guests, We really enjoyed our stay here and the hospitality extended to us and we look forward to extending such to them when they visit Benin City.
” On the general performance of our members, we can say that they did us proud. At Benin Club we don’t have a clay court but our players were not disgraced in tennis and all the sports we took part in. So, it was a wonderful experience.
“As a club, we’ve also learnt one or two things which we’ll implement in our club when we go back and we look forward to more of such visits in future”, they chorused.
Sports Secretary, Lagos Country Club, Babajide Egbele, expressed happiness for a successful hosting of the competition and was full of praise to the club’s management for hosting the sports fiesta.
Highlight of the tournament was a football match between the two clubs which Lagos Country Club won by 9-5.
Other sports which they participated in are; swimming, tennis, table tennis, squash, darts, badminton, scrabble and snooker amongst others.
