International Swimming Hall of Fame: The making of a world-class facility that will redefine aquatic sports
The International Swimming Hall of Fame (ISHOF) has broken ground on its $218 million construction project in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
This ambitious development of the Hall of Fame marks a significant milestone in creating a world-class facility that will redefine aquatic sports.
Bill Kent, Chair of the ISHOF Board, praised the City of Fort Lauderdale for its inspirational vision and commitment to the project. Â
“Thanks to the inspirational leadership of the City of Fort Lauderdale, our one-of-a-kind International Swimming Hall of Fame is being reborn. Thanks to the visionary leadership of the City of Fort Lauderdale, the new facilities, including the aquarium, will become a jewel in the crown.”
Fort Lauderdale Mayor Dean Trantalis highlighted how the revitalized Hall of Fame will further strengthen the city’s global reputation in aquatic sports. “The reconstruction of the International Swimming Hall of Fame reaffirms Fort Lauderdale’s position as a global leader in aquatic sports and tourism. We are excited to see the transformation of this iconic location and what it will offer residents and visitors for generations to come.”
The previous ISHOF museum has been demolished, with its collection stored in anticipation of the new Hall of Fame. Once completed, the new facility will include a state-of-the-art museum with interactive exhibits, an aquarium showcasing marine life, versatile event spaces, restaurants, and a theatre designed to engage and entertain visitors.
“This groundbreaking marks the beginning of something truly extraordinary for our community and visitors worldwide,” added Fort Lauderdale Vice Mayor Steven Glassman. “We’re creating a space that honours the past while providing a cutting-edge experience that will engage people of all ages.”
