Edo LG election: Okpeku pledges to tackle insecurity, empower youths

Igueben Local Government of Edo chairmanship aspirant, Mrs Isi Okpeku has outlined four key areas she would concentrate on to make life more meaningful for the people if she is given the mandate.

According to the PDP member, the key areas are security, agriculture, health , social amenities and the general wellbeing of the people.
According to Mrs Okpeku, “the killings by Fulani herdsmen has led to low production from our farmers”.
As a result, she said if elected, she will ensure she employs the use of local vigilante to support the police to check the menace and allow farmers return to their farms.
“Before now, our people practiced commercial agriculture but because of insecurity they now practice subsistence agriculture just to feed themselves”, she said.
On health, she said she would ensure the local government employs more hands for the facilities on ground, adding “we shall also partner with foreign investors as well as our son’s and daughters in the diaspora who are willing to do things at home”.
On education, she said , “our primary and secondary schools lack teachers, especially science teachers, so we would employ more”.
To check social vices among the growing population of youths, Mrs Okpeku said, “we are going to engage them continuously. If we can’t employ them, we will engage them through sports and vocational training for them to learn a trade and we will support them to start”.
