Udoh, Ikoyi Club captain wins golf tournament

The captain, golf section of the prestigious Ikoyi Club, Mr. Uwem Udoh has emerged winner of the 23rd honourary prize during a farewell golf tournament held for the 23rd captain of the foremost Ibadan Golf Club, Col. Ade Sumonun over the weekend.

Udoh, a Petroleum Engineer who was part of golfers that came far and wide to celebrate with the retired military officer during his signing out golf event by a share coincidence ended up carting away the 23rd prize of the one-day tournament held at the 19 hole greenish course of IGC.

Other winners include Obi. E who won the professional category with 75 gross as Sade Ajala, Lady Captain if the Tiger Golf Club won the prize for the nearest to the pin ladies while Lizzy Afonja playing off handicap 24 won the veteran categories with scores of 107gross over 83 net.

Also on the winning list was Evelyn Oyome of IGC who is playing off handicap 6 and won the best net prize with 80 gross over 74net in ladies category, while Akintoye S of Abeokuta Golf Club emerged best net winner of men’s category with 85gross over 73net. Rev. Nwachukwu ended up

winner of the IGC men’s best net with 82gross over 70 net.

The celebrant in his speech thanked all and sundry that came from every part of the country to celebrate with him, especially golfers from Ikoyi, Port Harcourt, Abeokuta, Osun, Ekiti and Abuja that participated in the weeklong event.

He was sworn in as the 23rd Captain of IGC on the 1st April 2019 and ended his tenure on the 31st March 2020, while the farewell kitty that was supposed to have been done since March this year was delayed till 19th September due to outbreak of the pandemic.

“I came in with the main objective of putting IGC in her rightful position amongst golf club in Nigeria. And with the support of the executive committee and encouragement from the generality of members we were able to actualize our plans”, Col. Sumonun said in his speech.
