Netball Summermix Holds In Jalingo

The Taraba State Sports Council in partnership with MAS Foundation, recently held a 10-day non-residential netball training event for primary and secondary school students in Jalingo.

The event which was powered by CSED Initiative, had an average attendance of 40 girls, who were taught the basic skills of netball by coaches Freeman Njeta Godwin and Falin Dauda, who were supported by three other netball coaches. 

The event which is an initiative of Taraba State Netball Association, is aimed at providing children and youths access to playing netball outside the school environment and to keep them busy with pro-social activities during the school holiday. 

Taraba State Sports Council provided a bus for the transportation of the students to the Jolly Nyami Stadium, where the training was held. Students from GDSS Nyamusala, Howai GDSS Jalingo and Magami GDSS Jalingo, were prominent in their participation in this training event.

Though the development of netball skills was the major focus of the training event, the students were also provided with health talk and drug abuse awareness information. The personal hygiene discussion was done by a nurse, Ediseh Danladi Issa, and sanitary pads were subsequently distributed to some of the attendees. 

On the last day of the training event, the representative of MAS Foundation, Mrs.
Lydia Shitta presented the students with certificates of attendance. Mrs. Shitta urged the students to continue to work hard in their academic pursuits, while at the same time, developing their sporting talents. 

Free anti-drug abuse pamphlets were distributed to the students. CSED Initiative donated 10 netball rims and 20 netball balls, that would be given to the five new schools that have just joined the netball family in Taraba State.

It would be recalled that in February 2023, CSED Initiative, reintroduced netball to Taraba state by training and equipping 34 Physical Education teachers in Jalingo.
The Taraba Sports Council stated that they are willing to partner with corporate organisations and NGOs, to provide children and youths in the state with more access to sports training and opportunities in future.
