Nigeria’s Patricia Mbata wins bronze at boxing world cup

Nigeria and Africa’s sole representative at the just concluded world boxing world cup, Patricia Mbata says getting a bronze medal at the world boxing cup would motivate her to keep pursing her dreams of reaching the pinnacle of her boxing career .
The British born Nigerian boxer who won a Gold medal at the last Africa games in Ghana in the 75kG, fought in the 70kG category and ended with a bronze medal at the world boxing cup which held in Kazakhstan Asanta from June 28 to 7th July 2025.

Patricia Mbata got an impressive Five zero win over Poland’s Alexandra Cyrek in the quarter- finals to get to the Semi- finals and ensured she got the bronze medal.

The boxer who is also a project construction manager by profession in the United Kingdom, has been on self sponsorship over the years representing the country at major international boxing championships.Her dream is still to represent Nigeria at the Olympics.

” It’s a thing of joy that as the only African at the World Cup, I fought my way to win a bronze medal. It will also interest you to know that I’ve been sponsoring myself to major international championships where I not only represent Nigeria but the entire African. Continent and I will not relent because my target is get to the pinnacle of my career and represent Nigeria at the Olympics”, she stated
