NSC Chairman declares 6th OSOM Games closed
As the five days of dogged and determined actions for the various colourful trophies and medals that thrilled both the officials, spectators and athletes to the glitz and glamour of the competition came to an end, the Chairman of the National Sports Commission, Mallam Shehu Dikko declared closed the 6th edition of the One Service One Medal (OSOM) games closed at the Moshood Abiola International Stadium in Abuja.
Delivering his closing remarks, the Chairman congratulated all the participants, coaches, and officials who took part in the OSOM games, stating that their dedication and hard work were truly commendable.
“As part of our vision under the Renewed Hope Initiative for Nigeria’s Sports Economy (REHINSE), we are determined to reposition the sports sector as a catalyst for Nigeria’s economic development and a key contributor to Nigeria’s GDP”, he said.
He highlighted how the OSOM games were not just about competing for medals but for promoting unity, camaraderie, and a sense of pride among the participating services.
He also expressed his gratitude to the host city, Abuja, for her warm hospitality and the Moshood Abiola International Stadium for providing a world-class venue for the games. He emphasized how the facilities and infrastructure at the stadium were a testament to the government’s commitment to developing and promoting sports in the country.
Mallam Shehu Dikko reminded everyone that the OSOM games were not just a one-time event but a continuous effort to promote and recognize the talents and skills of our dedicated service men and women.
He urged the participating services to continue to train and develop their athletes, intending to achieve greater success in the next edition of the OSOM games.
The Chairman thanked the Armed Forces, Police, and other security agencies for their commitment to protecting our nation and for their outstanding performances in the OSOM games and stated that “the talents discovered during this event represent a significant reservoir of talents and potential medalists for our nation.
The National Sports Commission is committed to identifying, nurturing, and supporting these athletes to attain podium finishes at international competitions.”
Dikko thanked the organizing committee, and all the sponsors and partners for their support and contributions towards making the 6th edition of the OSOM games a resounding success.
