The organisers of the annual Seyi Akinwunmi Charity Foundation have expressed delight over the impact of the project in the past 10 years.
In 2014, the SACF was born from a simple wish; to ensure talented children do not have to choose between their education and their love for football but interestingly the charity project has grown into a decade-long legacy.
A member or the organizing team, Abayomi Ogunfunwa, on Monday explained that the SACF is a project with so much difference.
Ogunfuwa said: “We provide limitless hope provided through mentorship. Once, we identify and bring the young once under our scheme, we monitor them and continue from about age 13 till they finish. It is not a one off thing thing
“What we do every year is to bring kids together and also stress the importance of education and sports to them. On the D-Day, there will be football, entertainment and of course, we will serve meals to all the participating kids.
“The impact over the years has been massive and we are still working with all those on scholarships with us. We don’t want to be talking about the numbers but we are happy with the impact and putting smiles on their faces and their parent by merging football and education.”
A total of six teams are on the cards to feature in the 2025 edition with two women teams and four men teams already confirmed by the organisers.
The women teams are Golden Eko Ballers Women Team and Asisat Oshoala Girls Academy while for the boys, Golden Eko Ballers U-14 Team, Dosu Football Academy, 36 Lions Football Academy and Ikorodu City Football Academy will compete for honours.
There will also be a novelty match between Igbobi College Old Boys Association of 2000 set and the Igbobi College Old Boys Association of 2001 set.
Head of the Technical arm of the organizing team, Mr. Dotun Coker, has assured that all was set for this year’s event, the 11th in the series.
Igbobi College will host this edition on Saturday December 27 with the huge support from the ICOBA 78/80 set.
