PROF CHARLES SOLUDO INTERNATIONAL WRESTLING CHAMPIONSHIP POSTPONED TO OCTOBER 18TH & 19TH
The management of the Nigeria Pro- Wrestling Federation led by Chief John Uche has announced the postponement of the much planned and publicized Prof. Charles Soludo International Pro- Wrestling Championship scheduled to hold in Awka, the Anambra State Capital in the last weekend of September, to Saturday 18th and Sunday 19th October, 2025 respectively.
The championship that has been planned to commemorate the 44th anniversary of the federation that will attract wrestlers from different parts of the Africa is in honour of the state Governor, Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo.
At a mini press briefing in Lagos over the weekend, President of Nigeria Pro Wrestling Federation, Chief John Uche, explained that the upcoming two day championship, will hold at the Dr. Alex Ekwueme Square in Awka, and will also be used to immortalize late Chief Michael Okpala, (Power Mike of Africa), former undefeated world pro wrestling champion and the first African to win World Heavyweight title in professional wrestling before setting up the Power Mike International Promotions in 1976.
According to Uche, Anambra State was chosen due to the support the State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo has pledged to the development of wrestling in the country.
The NPWF President revealed that the event will witness wrestling competitions, where citizens of the state will be contesting alongside other professionals from other African countries.
He said, “There will be a wrestling championship which will attract professional wrestlers from other African countries and the international community who will contest against some of the best Nigerians wrestlers.
“An Anambra lady wrestler Joy Nwafor “Stylish J” will be fighting for African women’s title against Ugandan champion Lumumba while Angus Emeadi “Executioner” will be defending his AWO light heavyweight title belt against Syndicate, the Mali Light Heavyweight champion.
“Mightyman the NPWF heavyweight champion will also step up to compete for the African Wrestling Council (AWC) heavyweight title against De Miser of Ghana. Congolese USA Bing will also defend his AWC Cruiserweight title against Major Ariba of Nigeria while Power Vic of Akwa Ibom State would also be competing with Misterio 619 of Enugu State for the Peace and Unity International cup that same night.
“We are bringing foreign trainers from United Kingdom and United States to train the youths. These youths will go abroad and make money just like others, instead of staying back here and getting involved in crime and criminality,” he said.
“Sports grow with good governance as we know. In Anambra, we sincerely want 4 + 4 to give us 8. We want more good roads, more bridges, youth empowerment, skills acquisition, more solution fun cities, good stadiums, and more indoor sports halls. We have brought this timely championship to Anambra State because of Soludo’s governance projects” Uche concluded
