Rivers Politics: APC National Secretary Calls for Wike’s Resignation as FCT Minister
The National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has demanded the immediate resignation of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, accusing him of using his ministerial position to interfere in the internal affairs of the ruling party and escalating political tension in Rivers State.
In a strongly worded statement issued on Monday, January 5, 2026, the APC scribe said his attention was drawn to what he described as an unprovoked tirade by the minister against his person and office, following his insistence that members of the party’s National Working Committee must accord sitting governors due respect as party leaders in their respective states.
He expressed shock that what he termed an “innocuous statement” could attract what he described as uncouth reactions from a serving member of the Federal Executive Council, stressing that such conduct was unbecoming of a minister.
Clarifying his position, the National Secretary maintained that Wike is not a registered member of the APC and therefore lacks the locus to interfere in its internal affairs, adding that party records clearly show that the former Rivers State governor does not belong to the ruling party.
He stated that his responsibility as National Secretary is national in scope and includes protecting the interests, members, and structures of the APC across the country, insisting that his comments on developments in Rivers State did not amount to interference.
Reacting to Wike’s reference to an alleged ₦600 billion “largesse” in Rivers State, which he claimed APC leaders were scrambling for, the party official described the allegation as cheap blackmail and challenged the minister to substantiate the claim or face legal action.
He dismissed suggestions that Wike’s support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu confers APC membership on him, warning that it was unacceptable for a member of the Federal Executive Council in an APC-led government to create confusion within the party.
He added that the honourable option open to Wike, if he wished to continue partisan battles within the APC, was to resign his appointment and fully pursue his political interests in Rivers State.
