Sadiq Mohammed wins WBC Muaythai National title

One of Nigeria’s most prolific Muaythai fighter, Sadiq Mohammed
A.k.A Target has won the first national title organised by the WBC Muaythai Federation of Nigeria.

Muaythai, often referred to as the ‘King of the ring’ is a martial arts sports with it’s origin in Thailand and it involves the use of punches, knee, elbow and kicking.
Fighting in the 57 kg, Mohammed left no one in doubt about his ability to beat his opponent; fighting Police man, Oyeniyi Akeem A.K.A Osaka whom he demolished in the first round through a knockout.
Speaking shortly after winning the fight, the well travelled Abubakar who has represented the country in many competitions outside the shores of Nigeria expressed happiness with his victory describing it as evidence of discipline, hard work, and good fighting skills.
” I’m highly excited winning this title because I really prepared for it. You’re aware that I have represented the country in many international competitions such as the 1st African Championship in Casablanca Morocco, Cameroon, Ghana, Cote d’Ivoire, and Venice, France and winning this title will spur me to do more for the country”, he stressed.

Mohammed gave kudos to the Federation for organising the first championship fight in the country and to his opponent whom he described as a good fighter but was quick to add that even before the fight, he knew he will beat him.
Also speaking, the African President of the sports, Hadj Battahar who supervised the fight said he’s happy that the sports has come to stay in Nigeria.
In his own remarks, President of WBC Muaythai Federation of Nigeria, Samuel Nweke said that the Federation will continue to pursue grassroots development of the sports just as he stated that the just concluded championship is the beginning of new thing to happen to the sports in the country.
In the other fights of the day, Chibuike
Sam walked over Ikechukwu Okafor while Gideon Ndidi defeated Abdusalam Ramadan by split points decision in the 57 kg class
Also Israel Olakunle defeated Rilwan Yahaya by first round technical knockout just as Christian Chima defeated Nurudeen Sadu by split decision while in the women category,
Nurat Lasisi beat Fatia Suleman in the 45 kg class.
