Dare, Iwuanyanwu, Others Set for Sports Philanthropists Award

Minister of Sports and Youth Development, Sunday Dare and the newly installed President General of the Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu are among the top dignitaries expected to receive awards at the first ever Nigerian Sports Philanthropists Award billed to take place on Wednesday at the Shehu Musa Yar’dua Centre in Abuja.

The event is being put together by the Nigerian Society for the Promotion of Sports in conjunction with the Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC) and the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN).

Chairman of the Main Organizing Committee (MOC) and the Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Society for the Promotion of Sports, Vincent Michael in a statement on Monday said the Award is to recognize and honour some well meaning Nigerians who have over the years used their hard earned resources to invest in sports development.

Michael said the different reputable organizations decided to come together for the Award given their vast involvement with the development and promotion of sports in the country over time.

He said there are different categories of awardees including the best performing governor in the development of sports, the best sports developing deputy governor as well as best performing sports administrator.

Already notable Nigerians including the First Lady of Edo state, Mrs. Betsy Obaseki, Edo state Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu and the President of the NOC, Engr. Habu Gumel are all slated to be honoured.

Also, President of the Nigeria Volleyball Federation, Engr. Musa Nimrod, the Proprietor of Mo Heat Basketball, Mohammed Shehu and the Founder of HOTCOAL Basketball Club, Ubon Udoh are all slated for recorgnition.
