Soccer Body, GRAFTADEAN Consoles Nigerians on death of ex-President Buhari
Following Muhammadu Buhari’s death in a London hospital on Sunday at the age of 82, tributes to the late former president have been pouring in from the Nigerian sports community. The Grassroots Football Talents Developers Association of Nigeria (GRAFTADEAN), the country’s leading grassroots soccer organization has expressed his condolences for the loss of Nigeria’s former leader.
On behalf of GRAFTADEAN BOTs-in-Council, Prince Wasiu Oloyede Asanike and Engineer Afolabi Waheed Aderemi issued a condolence message, describing the late former President Muhammadu Buhari as a leader who demonstrated a great deal of passion and dedication to the development of football in Nigeria during his tenure.
However, the body sent its deepest condolences to the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and its President, Ibrahim Musa Gusau, the whole Nigerian sporting community, President Buhari’s family, and the federal government, led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
”Nigeria during Buhari’s presidency saw public-private partnerships renovate important national stadiums, such as the National Stadium in Surulere, Lagos, and the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja. These improvements gave players access to top-notch facilities for practice and competition and revived pride in national sports venues.”
“The Super Falcons maintained their supremacy, winning the Africa Women Cup of Nations in 2016 and 2018, while the Super Eagles found it difficult to duplicate their previous successes, missing out on the 2022 FIFA World Cup and losing AFCON campaigns. Nigeria further solidified its position as a continental football superpower in 2018 by hosting a FIFA Executive Football Summit,” the statement reads in part.
