Supporters Club Unification: All stakeholders must obey NFF MoU, says Ikpea
National Chairman of Nigeria Football Supporters Club, Rev. Amb. Samuel Ikpea has spoken about the need for the leadership of all the various Supporters Club in the country to obey the Memorandum of Understanding ( MoU)t they signed with the Nigeria Football Federation towards unification of the various factions even as he charged the NFF to sanction anyone who goes contrary to the agreement or reneged on it
All the various Supporters Club in the country, a fortnight ago signed an agreement that spelt out how the club will be unified after which the NFF set up a caretaker Committee that will handle the affairs of the United body for one year and at the expiration of their one year tenure, organise an election.
The MoU also stated that anybody who serves in the Caretaker Committee will not be eligible to contest for any position.
Ikpea who was part of the peace process gave kudos to the football house for taking such a bold initiative but was quick to point out that some people might be making clandestine moves to frustrate the agreement.
” I must have to commend the leadership of the NFF under Ibrahim Gusau and the Chairman of the National Sports Commission, Mallam Shehu Dikko for their bold initiative to ensure that Supporters Club are under one united family.
” This is what we at the Nigeria Football Supporters Club have been clamouring for because it does not augur well for the country that when we go to support the national teams, there’ll be different group of Supporters rendering different songs at the same time.
“You’re aware that whenever the Super Eagles have a crucial match, we have what we call tactical group. In this group, we have prayer warriors, who will have to fast and pray for the team but with the fractionalization of the Club, it becomes difficult for the group to operate because they might be doing the right thing, another group will be doing the wrong thing”, he lamented.
Ikpea reminded all those involved in the peace deal to remember that the NFF Legal Adviser, Barrister Obi who was the Chairman of the reconciliation Committee took his time to draw up the agreement which everybody willingly signed and anyone who reneged on the MoU will be doing a great disservice to the country and must be heavily sanctioned”, he concluded.
